Festivals & Events

As the springtime weather warms up, parade and event season kicks off in New York City. From May 24th to 30th, over a dozen Navy and Coast Guard ships as well as ships from all over the world visit New York Harbor as the Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum presents Fleet Week. In partnership with New York City, the United States Navy and the Intrepid Museum, the visiting Fleet Week vessels are open for free public daily tours and include military demonstrations, athletic competitions and much more. www.intrepidmuseum.org
For BBQ connoisseurs, this is the big one! The fourth annual Big Apple Barbecue Block Party takes places from June 10th to 11th and features mouthwatering favorites. The National Puerto Rican Day Parade takes place on June 11th to create awareness and appreciation of the Puerto Rican culture and its contribution to the culture and society of the United States. In addition, it promotes the study, improvement, and/or advancement of Puerto Rican culture and the arts by encouraging, promoting, coordinating, developing, managing and participating in various cultural events, including musical productions, plays art exhibits, and the conduct of parades in the City of New York. Sporting Events
The prestigious Belmont Stakes horse race takes place on June 10th at Belmont Park. The race is the third leg of the Triple Crown, following the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. Because of its length (one lap around the enormous Belmont main track), and because it is the final race of the Triple Crown, it is called the "Test of the Champion". Come watch today’s top golfers compete head-to-head at the 106th United States Open Championship from June 15th to 18th. The tournament is returning to the Winged Foot Golf Club, an exemplary course that dates back to the 1920’s. On June 17th, Central Park SummerStage proudly enters its third decade of presenting free, cutting-edge, eclectic, and thoughtful programming for all. Holiday Celebrations
