Welcome to the first edition of the monthly Grenada e-newsletter designed to keep you informed about all the exciting and interesting things that are happening in Grenada. Grenada is widely considered the most unspoiled island in the Caribbean and is known for its production of numerous spices, in fact, Grenada is the world's largest producer of nutmeg. The island features many exciting events and activities throughout the year and offers a fresh, relaxing alternative to other Caribbean destinations frequented by Canadians. This newsletter will highlight all of those events and activities and give you an inside look at 'The Spice Island of the Caribbean'.

Scuba Diving: An exciting activity that you can enjoy while in Grenada or its sister island Carriacou. Grenada and Carriacou offer everything a scuba enthusiast can ask for: good visibility, large fish and untouched corals rich with aquatic wildlife. The island of Carriacou is literally surrounded by coral reefs; in fact, the island takes its name from an old Arawak Indian word meaning 'island of reefs'. There are a total of 28 dive sites located off the coasts of Carriacou and Grenada. The corals surrounding these beautiful islands hold many treasures waiting to be discovered.

Grenada Hotels & Resorts

After the devastating effects of Hurricane Ivan, most hotels and resorts were forced to rebuild from scratch. Grenadian hoteliers saw this as an opportunity to improve their properties and adopted the motto of "Build Back Better." This explains why many of Grenada's top resorts have waited over a year to reopen, they are taking their time and striving to make their new facilities as hurricane-proof as possible in the unlikely event of another tropical storm. Nearly all of Grenada's hotels and resorts are back in business and the remainder will be coming back by summer 2006.

Shopping News

A new shopping mall located at the South City Plaza hotel has recently opened its doors to the public. The mall features 25 shops, 23 of which are duty-free. A wide variety of stores are located in the mall offering products such as fragrances, cosmetics, local arts and crafts, jewelry, clothing, shoes and much more.

Newest Restaurants

Turning Point is located within Jenny's Place (resort), which is owned by Grenada's one and only former Miss World, Jennifer Hosten. She and her husband, Shaun Sarsfield, opened their small, newly renovated tourist facility on beautiful Grand Anse Beach in August of 2005, just in time for tourist season.

Air Canada Vacations runs a direct flight from Toronto to Grenada (Monday to Monday) - December 19, 2005 to March 27, 2006 (visit www.aircanadavacations.com). Air Canada and BWIA operate regularly scheduled flights from Toronto and Montreal to Barbados or Trinidad with connections on LIAT and Caribbean Star to Grenada.
