ICC Cricket World Cup Wrap Up

The ICC Cricket World Cup concluded on April 28, 2007 with Australia claiming
their third consecutive World Cup victory. The Aussies triumphed by 53 runs over
Sri Lanka in the final match held Saturday in Barbados. The ICC Cricket World Cup was a success across the Caribbean with each host country experiencing an unprecedented increase in tourism.

Grenada itself welcomed an overwhelming number of guests to the Island. At a ‘meet & greet’ set-up at Point Salines International Airport, greeters served over 4,000 visitors a welcome drink. From April 10 to 20, Grenada’s National Stadium held an average of 10,000 cricket fans at each of the matches. The largest attended game in Grenada was Australia vs. New Zealand which brought out 12,229 fans.

The Cultural after-cricket events hosted by Grenada were also a great success.
The mini carnival, plentiful parish festivals and various events held at the Cultural Village (at the Botanical Gardens) and the Trade Centre introduced cricket fans to the rich island culture and heritage of Grenada.

The tireless efforts of Grenada’s Board of Tourism, hospitality representatives, parish organizers and volunteers made the ICC Cricket World Cup a real success
for the Island.

Hutch's Story:

From April 15 to 22, an American film crew lead by British author Charlotte Bresse
was in Grenada to film a documentary about entertainment superstar Leslie “Hutch” Hutchinson. Included among the entourage were two of Hutch's children and two of his grandchildren. The documentary, a work-in-progress, is based on Mrs. Breese's
best-selling book "HUTCH", and will portray the dynamic and controversial life and
times of the singer.

The film crew shot footage of Hutch's birthplace, childhood hang outs, his adult
children chatting with surviving family members, and the Grenada Boys Secondary School, Hutch attended before embarking for the U.S. For the finale of this sentimental journey, Hutch's descendants performed a live cabaret “The Story of Hutch” at The Grenadian Rex.
