ICC Cricket World Cup will be a showcase of Grenadian Culture

The ICC Cricket World Cup is quickly descending upon Grenada. Already Canadians have purchased their tickets to the matches taking place April 10 to 20, 2007. But the matches won’t be the only entertainment on the Island - in true Grenadian fashion, the Islanders will be pulling out all the stops to put on what can only be described as a cultural extravaganza.

Events will be organized by the State, festival committees, and private promoters to ensure that each Parish will have its own unique event. Festivities will include a mini-carnival featuring a Fancy Mas parade, performances from local theatre groups and musicians, and a variety of culinary festivals. Nightclubs across the Island will also be pitching in to provide the thousands of anticipated fans with entertainment.

The Island’s festivities are expected to be particularly enthusiastic as Grenadian batsman Devon Smith has been selected to play on the West Indies World Cup Squad. Twenty-five year old Smith is the only Grenadian playing in the ICC Cricket World Cup this year. His unique left-hand batting style and a right-arm Off-break is sure to be an asset in the upcoming matches.

Flights and accommodations in Grenada for the Cricket World Cup are filling up fast, so make sure to call hotels and resorts ahead of time to ensure a place among the festivities. For more information, visit www.cricketworldcup.com
