Canadians traveling to Grenada stack up
a stellar 16% increase for Q1 of 2009
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 26th, 2009. (St. George’s, Grenada) — Canadians boost tourism to Grenada for the first quarter of 2009, as the latest data shows a remarkable 16% increase in visitors over a year ago. During Q1 of 2009, 2,528 Canadians visited Grenada, as compared to 2,173 for Q1 of 2008. The Canadian market now represents 10% of the worldwide market for Grenada. Excluded from these numbers are students attending university/college in Grenada and returning nationals.
William Joseph, Director of Tourism for the Grenada Board of Tourism said, “This data underscores how important Canada is to Grenada’s tourism economy. Canadians obviously value Grenada’s new and enhanced hotel product, charm and beauty. Over the past several years there has been a steady growth originating from Canada, primarily the source markets of Ontario and Quebec.”
Located at the southern end of the Windward Islands, about 12 degrees north of the equator, the island nation of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique offers Canadian travelers a wide range of vacation options. These include: stunning gold and black sand beaches, water sports, sailing and yachting, 28 dive sites unmatched for coral and abundant schools of fish, parks, protected rainforests and Eco tourism, history and archeology dating back to the 1600’s, cuisine flavoured with nutmeg, cinnamon and other local spices, markets, sports and year round festivals. All this makes Grenada a one-stop vacation to satisfy any travelers’ needs no matter how active or relaxing a vacation sought after.
