Grenada Tourism Update

June 22, 2009. (St. George’s, Grenada, WI)—The Grenada Board of Tourism has recently released the update on tourism developments underway in Grenada as follows:
Leapers Hill Heritage attraction has added photographic documentation, a mural and small museum depicting the life and times of the original Caribe settlers in Grenada.
Grenada Seafaris offers a new service with a variety of island boat tours highlighting the concept of shoreline sightseeing, with opportunities to learn about Grenada’s history, ecology and geography, and a close up interaction with Grenada’s underwater sculpture park at Moliniere Point and coral and shoals of fish at Flamingo Bay.
Sea Fun Adventure is a new water-based attraction for above-the-surface fun where they pilot their own inflatable boat in a 2.5-hour tour along Grenada’s west coast. It allows participants to discover Grenada’s beaches, coral reefs, and sea life.
La Luna has opened a new spa and wellness centre offering a range of massage options for its clients. The Calabash Hotel has introduced spa and wellness facilities.
The Grenada Board of Tourism is encouraging Grenadian nationals to take advantage of the Spice Holidays Reward Programme. This reward package focuses on providing discounts to returning nationals as they rediscover the culture, heritage, food and people that make Grenada the “Spice of the Caribbean”.
Tourism Investments
Calivigny Cove
This project, which will include a boutique hotel, residences and marina, would comprise of 186 keys. Among them are 60 guest rooms, 5 tree houses, 40 two-bedroom suites with lock off, 25 three or four bedroom residences, 6 beach luxury residences and a marina village.
Petite Anse Hotel
The 11-room Petite Anse is a unique beachfront development, set in a beautiful tropical garden with spectacular views of the north coast of Grenada. Facilities include a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, bar, and restaurant.
Mount Cinnamon
Mount Cinnamon Grenada has 21 fully furnished and tastefully equipped one, two and three bedroom suites and villas; the minimum is over 1200 sq feet in size. All accommodations enjoy beach views and offer a beachside cabana club with water sports, tennis, spa treatments, swimming pool and gymnasium. The property includes the popular contemporary Verandah Restaurant, with its dishes that fuse the best of the Mediterranean with that of local vegetables, flavours and spices.
Four Seasons Resort & Private Residences, Grenada
The Grenada Four Seasons Hotel and Residences project is being developed on 420 acres of land on the south east coast of Grenada. This includes the 81-acre Hog Island that has been joined to the mainland by a bridge. Cinnamon 88 that is a world-renowned successful British development company will construct the resort. Upon completion, Four Seasons will assume management. The entire project comprises an 18-hole Championship Golf Course, a 130-Key Four Seasons Resort Hotel (including 2 Presidential Suites and 1 Royal Suite) with full supporting facilities having rooms of a single-story, low-density nature. It also includes a marina with a sailing school and terrestrial research centre, yacht slips, tennis courts, clubhouses, several restaurants, bars, and 175 private residences and villas spread over the entire acreage. Extensive water features, lush landscaping, beach club, fitness centre, and a number of white sand areas on Hog Island and Grenada, complete the product offerings. The sod-turning ceremony for this project took place on Friday April 18, 2008. There is no indication as to exactly when work will resume on this project.
Le Phare Bleu Marina & Resort
Le Phare Bleu Marina & Resort beachfront resort comprises 13 units, designed with a blend of modern and traditional styles. There is a luxury two bed-roomed, two-bathroom villa incorporating a unique plunge pool within the interior of the building. Other features include a swimming pool and lounge bar, car hire, and a mini-market. Service facilities are available to the yachting community on site, and the water sports facilities include sailing, snorkeling and wake boarding.
Grand Harbour Waterfront Residences
Grand Harbour is a collection of luxury waterfront residences located on Egmont Point on the south coast of Grenada. It is designed to provide each apartment with magnificent views of the bay and mountains of Grand Etang with the latest in resort design and infrastructure. 26 fully serviced private slips, a mega yacht berth, swimming pool, day spa and fitness centre, restaurant, bar and impressively equipped water sports club make the project. The project comprises 54 units of three-bedroom waterfront town houses, three-bedroom waterfront apartments and two- bedroom hillside apartments. The plan is for the opening date of December 2010.
Port Louis Marina & Creole Village
The Port Louis Marina and Creole Village a major joint venture arrangement between the de Savary Group and the largest marina developer in the world, Camper & Nicholsons. In the new partnership, Camper & Nicholsons is investing 24 million US dollars to market and develop the Port Louis Marina into one of the best and most exclusive in the world. The first ten super yacht berths are now fully operational with exclusive accommodation. Phase one of the Port Louis Marina Development is nearing completion and 50 fully serviced berths are in operation. Upon completion the new marina will offer almost 400 berths for craft from 10m to 90m including 73 super yacht berths (25m+ in length). Alongside the marina is the exclusive EC$1.5 billion Maritime Village that will eventually include individual houses, residential units, a luxurious 5-star hotel, a world class premier spa and well-being lifestyle centre, restaurants, bars and duty free boutiques. The Victory Bar & Grill II, which has been the first major development to take place at the Port Louis Marina, has been fully operational since May 2007.
Bacolot Bay Resort & Spa
Bacolet Bay Resort and Spa is set in a private position that fronts the Caribbean and offers spectacular sea and mountain views. It spreads over 41 acres of tropical gardens and comprises a mix of apartments, villas and hotel cottages offering facilities including spa and fitness centre, tennis courts, beachfront bars and restaurants. This 5-star luxury project was launched in February 2007 and construction is on schedule. The completion date for the first phase of the project is targeted for the second half of 2010. At the 2007 International Property Awards, the Bacolet Bay Resort & Spa Development was awarded the Best Development and also copped the award for the Best Developer Website.
Levera Resort & Spa
On January 4, 2008, a commemorative plaque was unveiled to mark the official commencement of the new Levera Eco-Resort project. The project is structured to create a world-class luxury eco-resort that meets industry best practices for environmentally sound design and construction. It will be of low-density in synergy with its ecological goal to preserve the esthetics of the Levera National Park, Levera Beach and the protection of the turtle-breeding habitat. Several hundred trees will be replanted along the beachfront and steps taken to reduce the negative impact of invasive plants. Construction will begin in 2009 and followed by the building of the hotel and villas. The current revised schedule shows the hotel should be completed by late 2011.
The Point
Located on the south coast of Grenada in Fort Jeudy, this 15-room resort property has two pristine white sand beaches offering protected swimming and snorkeling. It will offer, a high level of finish and modern architectural designs utilizing the best of the Caribbean, Mexican and regional design influences. Its design uses many ecological ideas to reduce the impact on the eco-system - solar water heating, solar lighting and an efficient water irrigation system. The completion date is for the latter part of 2009.

Grenada can be reached via Air Canada Vacations that operates a direct flight from Toronto to Grenada (11 resorts, Sunday departure with easy connections from major Canadian gateways, and bookings for the 2009/10 season available at www.aircananavacations.com) from 20 December 2009 to April 2010. AC operates daily flights from Toronto to Barbados (Saturday & Sunday departure from Montreal) with connections on LIAT to Grenada and Caribbean Airlines operate regularly scheduled flights from Toronto and Montreal to Barbados and Trinidad with connections on LIAT to Grenada. GG Tours and Titan Tours operate seasonal charter services (www.ggtours.ca and www.titantours.com). West Jet operates a flight from Toronto to Barbados with connections on LIAT to Grenada from November onwards. American Airlines operates a non-stop flight three times per week from Miami to Grenada from November onwards.
