Geographic Expeditions: Kilimanjaro by a New Route
GeoEx’s first summiters by our new Barafu-Crater Camp route have reported a gratifyingly grand experience. We switched to the new route when Kilimanjaro National Park closed the Western Breach approach, which we had used for many years.
The new trail to the summit, like the old, avoids the crowded “tourist” routes, and allows for a gradual, beautiful, and nicely acclimatizing six-day climb, from the equator to the arctic, as the saying goes. It also gives us the chance to make camp in the peak’s crater, at over 18,000 feet. This is more than a dramatic and magic place a to Kilimanjaro’s true highpoint, 19,340-foot Uhuru Peak, in only a couple of hours. In addition, we also offer a delightful pre-climb, four-night stay at Campi Ya Kanzi. Our trip departs August 24th, so please check out our website at or feel free to contact Lindsay Duxbury at 1-800-777-8183 for more information.
