Remembering a Legend: Lars-Eric Lindblad’s Explorer

Lars-Eric Lindblad pioneered seafaring tourist expeditions in Antarctica and around the world. In 1969 he launched a small hardy ship expressly designed to carry out those expeditions. He called it the Explorer and for decades it epitomized small-ship adventure travel to the planet's remotest places. Sadly, the Explorer sank on Nov. 23 in the frigid Antarctic waters where its legend was forged. That event prompted Sven-Olof Lindblad, the president of Lindblad Expeditions and son of Lars-Eric, to write some moving and eloquent reflections. Read more…
